Temple University Football Complex

Temple University Football Complex

Athletic Field Construction

Temple University

Football Complex

Philadelphia, PA

Overview

Completed in 2014, Temple University now has a new truly state of the art Division 1 level football practice complex that allows them to compete and attract top level talent. The newly renovated facility contains a synthetic turf football field, dedicated only for the NCAA Division I Football team’s practices and workouts.

This project presented a number of unique and unexpected challenges due to its urban location, local authorities/requirements and design enhancements which were added and performed during the construction process. Much of the work was delicate in nature so as to preserve the myriad of existing underground municipal utilities.

The old existing turf and drainage mat were removed along with the export of the entire existing stone base and an extensive amount of old historic construction fill. This enabled LandTek to lower the existing subgrade to accommodate the new modern underground detention and drainage system, designed to meet the new stringent municipal storm water regulations. The system was designed to tie into and work in unison with the City of Philadelphia’s storm water system.
