Following a 41- year absence, competitive field hockey has returned to Wagner College as the Seahawks are sponsoring a field hockey program in 2019 for the first time since 1978.
The jewel of the new field hockey complex, which is located adjacent to the Seahawks’ football stadium – Hameline Field, is a state-of the art synthetic turf playing surface installed by The LandTek Group.
“We couldn’t be more excited and the fact that we can do so on a beautiful and functional brand new home surface makes it that much more exciting,” said Wagner athletic director Walt Hameline. “We held our home opener last weekend vs. La Salle and the playing surface, and entire complex – including our new scoreboard, drew rave reviews from those who attended.”
In addition to serving as Wagner’s field hockey game and practice field, the new playing surface adds another practice field for sports such as lacrosse and soccer, freeing up field time and allowing greater flexibility with practice scheduling.
“Our new playing surface is as good, if not better, than any I’ve ever seen,” said Miller. “It’s a perfect surface for the game of field hockey and our team absolutely loves playing and practice on it. CHRISTIANSBURG, VA — On Friday August 17th, Christiansburg High School’s benefit game was special because it’s being played on a brand-new turf field installed by The LandTek Group.
Last year, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors and the school board approved athletic field improvements by The LandTek Group. Before the August 17th game, members of both boards took the field and were honored for their part in making it all possible.
“This is a spectacular feeling. It’s something we’ve been waiting on for a long time,” said Tony Deibler, principal of Christiansburg High School.
“A lot of nice things have been done around the county at our other schools, and now our residents here in Christiansburg are saying ‘Hey, it’s our turn to upgrade our facilities as well,'” said Mark Miear, superintendent of Montgomery County Schools.
Through each snap of the ball, tackle and touchdown, the transformation was easy to see.
Members of the district knew that renovations to the existing grass field were needed, with a conversion to synthetic turf being the eventual outcome. “It was a grass field.
We had a huge crown on it, so if you were standing on one sideline and the ball was on the other sideline, you couldn’t even see the ball,” said Deibler.
Officials say it’s not only a win for players, but for the Christiansburg community as a whole.
“The community loves Christiansburg high school sports. They support us. They come out,” said Deibler.
The new synthetic turf field has already helped the Christiansburg High School Blue Demons create memories, with the team recording a 37-0 win over Carroll County in the first game played on the new synthetic turf field.

Babylon, NY — Newsday reports the Town of Babylon has finished refurbishing a Deer Park athletic field that was one of the first park fields that the town converted from grass to synthetic turf.
Work on the multiuse field at Birchwood Park, off Sunburst Drive, wrapped up at the end of May, said Deputy Town Supervisor Tony Martinez.
Martinez said the conversions were made starting in 2004 because the turf requires less maintenance and eliminates the need for pesticides, but the fields have a limited life. The Birchwood field came with a 10-year warranty, and last year the town noticed that the fibers had started to disintegrate and that the lines were faded.
The town hired LandTek of Amityville to replace the 370-by-225-foot field, which is used for football, lacrosse and soccer. They also replaced a grassy 60-by-150-foot practice area adjacent to the field with synthetic turf.

Doylestown Borough, PA — The school board awarded The LandTek Group Inc., the contract to install two synthetic grass fields and a new tennis court at Central Bucks High School West. The project will begin this May and be completed this Fall.

Loudoun, VA — The Loudoun County School Board awarded The LandTek Group Inc., the contract to install synthetic grass fields at both Heritage High School and Dominion High School.
The LandTek Group Inc., a Mid-Atlantic contractor with a regional office in Richmond, VA and corporate headquarters in New York, was awarded both the contracts; LandTek will install turf and resurface the track at Heritage High School for $1.55 million and Dominion High School for $1.58 million with the goal to finish the project in time for the Fall sports season.

LandTek Breaks Ground at NYCFC Orangeburg, NY Practice Facility, Named ‘Official Pitch Supplier’
Read the full article & see photos In a groundbreaking ceremony on July 27, LandTek and the New York City Football Club announced a partnership between the two organizations, in which LandTek has been named the “Official Pitch Supplier” of New York city Football Club.
The partnership will see LandTek construct a new, permanent training facility for NYCFC at CFA NY, located in Orangeburg, NY. The facility will consist of one-and-a-half regulation sized grass pitch, as well as team offices and other amenities.
LandTek’s relationship with NYCFC has gone back to the earliest days of the football club, with LandTek Certified Sports Field Managers Kevin Malone and Chris Fox testing the pitch at NYCFC’s home field, Yankee Stadium. In addition, LandTek has constructed and maintained the current practice facility for NYCFC, located st SUNY Purchase.
There is a great deal of excitement within both parties for the partnership. “We are proud to partner with NYCFC as they continue to enhance soccer and create state-of-the-art sports facilities in New York” said John Sulinski, LandTek COO. “Their success in MLS and commitment to develop their club, academy and affiliated youth programs have had a positive impact in the soccer community.”

LandTek Completes State-of-the-Art Training Facility.
LandTek has completed yet another project for one of its most visible, high-profile clients: the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Located in Hanover, New Jersey, the state-of-the-art practice field consists of a new natural turf playing surface, complete with natural sand-based bluegrass sod playing surface, allowing the best playing conditions for the team. In addition, the project features many aspects of LandTek’s Turn-Key services, including retaining walls, irrigation system, and perimeter fence with ball stopper netting system.
Like any project, there were some challenges associated, “We’re familiar with the Red Bulls, having done work for the team in the past,” said Dave Sullivan, Project Manager. “Our standards are sky-high, though, so it was important for us to treat this as the first project we’ve completed for the team. You want the owner of any job to know that when the athletes step onto the field for the first time, whether they’re playing for the first time or as an all-world athlete, they’ll be playing on the best surface possible. We gave them that with this project.”
In addition to this facility, LandTek has completed other high-profile projects for the team, including Red Bulls Stadium, and the dual-field training facility, which was featured in the September 2014 Issue of Plumbing and Mechanical Magazine.
