The Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium will have a brand-new turf as the removal of the old turf has begun, setting the stage for the installation of a new turf field in advance of the 2023 season.
The Marty Lyons Foundation grants wishes to children 3 to 17 years old with life-threatening and terminal illnesses in 13 states (including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut), through various fundraising activities, including an annual celebrity golf outing on Long Island.
Latimer said: “I want this project to be a symbol of real change within the City of Mount Vernon. A symbol that shows that what seems impossible is possible if government can put ego aside and work together. I graduated from High School on this field, and I look forward to working with Mayor Patterson-Howard as we watch the next generation of Mount Vernon’s leaders make their own memories on this field.”
The installation of the turf at War Memorial Field has begun. A crew from LandTek, out of Long Island, N.Y., began the process on Thursday. Each piece of turf will be glued and sewn to its neighbors.
League President Richard Tomitz hosted the ribbon cutting, where Catalanotto, a St. James resident, and LandTek’s Marty Lyons both gave inspirational speeches.
Town officials were joined by employees of LandTek, who were contracted by the town to do the improvements for the parks’ courts.
Township officials announced plans for $2.9 million in major upgrades and improvements for athletic fields located at both the Jackson Justice Complex and the Holman Athletic Complex.
“We are always updating our parks and recreation facilities to make sure our youth and other visitors have the most up-to-date field on which to play. These fields provide our youth with positive activities where they get exercise, build social skills and learn sportsmanship,” DiVincenzo said.
The LandTek Group, Inc. announced today the recent acquisition of Carlson Fence, headquartered in Miami, Florida. The LandTek Group is a market leading general contractor on the east coast specializing in the construction of athletic fields and facilities.
Marty Lyons, LandTek’s Vice President of Public Relations Marketing and former New York Jets football player, praised the completion of the project and Squeri for stepping up to get it completed.
