LandTek Completes Unique “Bubble at Baker” Project for Columbia University
The LandTek Group has recently completed it’s first high-profile project of 2017: the renovation of Baker Athletic Complex to a state-of-the-art athletic facility, complete with the “Bubble at Baker”; an athletic bubble to support year-round training and play. The project, also referred to as the SASS (Seasonal Air Supported Structure), is a landmark achievement for both the University and LandTek.
“LandTek is proud to continue our relationship with Columbia and transform the Baker Athletic Complex into a state of the art facility,” says John Sulinski, LandTek COO. “The recent SASS project was a very time sensitive infrastructure development project”.
While this project only adds to the relationship LandTek and Columbia University has maintained, it was unique in its nature. The SASS project included, among other services: site and civil work, concrete foundation, synthetic turf installation, and the construction of an athletic bubble.
Parties involved are quick to see the benefits of such a project. As such, Columbia student-athletes now have access to one of the finest training facilities in the region, including year-round access, providing an advantage over competing programs. “Other schools are going to quickly see how the Lions’ benefit from the bubble,” Sulinski explained. “In the northeast, the ability to have a season structure for training will prove to be a very valuable asset.”
